HISTORY OF MOBILE PHONES

HISTORY OF MOBILE PHONES
Martin Cooper is the inventor of the mobile phone used by more than a half of the world population. Having two kilograms weight, handset was firstly published in 1973 with the assistance of the Motorola team. When he made the first phone call using a prototype cell phone, he never imagined that homemade devices would succeed one day. It took cost around US$ 1 million to produce the first cell phone. "In 1983, portable phones worth U.S. $ 4 thousand (Rp36 million), equivalent to US$ 10 thousand (Rp90 million) current day".
Cooper said that his team had faced the challenge of how to put all the ingredients in a mobile phone for the first time. But ultimately industrial designers had done a super job and the engineers had completed the first-two-kilogram mobile devices.
A very important material for the first mobile phone was the battery with weight of four or five times the existing mobile phone, and battery life of 20 minutes, but it was not a problem because users would not be using it for that.
After producing mobile phones, the next challenge was to adapt the infrastructure to support mobile phone calls.
"The challenge is creating a network with only need 3 MHz spectrum, equivalent to five TV channels, to be channeled to the whole world". He and his team hoped that someday everyone could have their own handset.
The new generation of so called smart phones have revolutionized the mobile phone industry and changed the way how people use them. Technology applied to the handset has changed the focus of the voice call using to other functions such as portable media player, web browsing and camera.
Along with the development of mobile phones into the fourth generation, with new features at every reform, the inventor of the phone had said that the handset in the future should aim at improving the quality of life of users. "Technology makes life better, more comfortable, safe, educated, entertained and the most makes more productive and healthy".
In terms of physical development of phones that had shrunk from the original size to be smaller, he believed that future users would be able to share with these devices.
"Mobile phones in the long term will be inserted under the skin behind the ear with sophisticated computers that would make the job harder".
